There was a time when city’s well-known comedian Sudesh Lehri was known for his comic flair. He has made us laugh on TV screen for years and is still known for his dialogues like ‘Mai Thappar Marna Tere’ etc. Today, with the changing trends, the taste of public has also taken a shift. Thanks to renowned artist Kapil Sharma. Sudesh and Krushna Abhishek’s Jodi was quite popular and gained much appreciation worldwide. Now, former’s on-screen presence is slowly fading away.

Whatever may be the scenario today, he will be remembered for his perfect on-screen timing. Years back, I got an opportunity to speak to him over telephone and interviewed him for one of his Pollywood flick.

He is a perfect comedian with wonderful comic timing. Anyone can make out ‘who is he’ from his dialogues ‘Main Thappar Marna Tere’ and ‘Teri Maa Ka Sakinaka’. Yes you guessed it right! He is none other than stand-up comedian Sudesh Lehri. Born in city Jalandhar and then shifted to Amritsar later, Sudesh Lehri has contributed a lot in the field of Punjabi Cinema and Laughter world. He is making all of us laugh to the loudest since years through Comedy Circus reality show and has made a special space in everyone’s heart.

The name and fame that he carries along today didn’t come to him easily. His entire journey till now demands appreciation. His hard work, dedication and kind nature towards life has transformed his life from rag to riches. He has experienced a lot of rainy days since childhood. As a child he was made to work at a tea stall. But the good thing was that he owned a natural flair of comedy. He used to participate in localities Rama Leela and Rasa Leela where he used to mimic at backstage. He is the perfect paradigm for all those who think that illiterates cannot survive for long.

He started his career with Doordarshan in Jalandhar. He played comedy roles in numerous programs like Patari, Lishkara and many more. Then the time came when the audio-cassettes were released titling his own name like Lehri Number 1. Further recalling his growing period Sudesh himself shares, “Well, I was started getting recognition when audio-cassettes by my name were released. Then I decided to step into Punjabi Cinema as there was a rapid growth in this industry. I did cameo roles in a couple of movies.  Then finally I got a big break on a private channel in a show ‘Alpha Gaddi’ where I did 100 episodes of comedy all aloof.”

Till then he was quite satisfied by the recognition he started enjoying in Punjab. He never thought about what next? Slowly he cracked the auditions for a TV reality show ‘Laughter Challenge 3’ and was among top 3 that gave him fame at National level. Since then there was no looking back for him. Huge round of applauds, standing ovations from jury, appreciation from veteran celebs like Big B, Shekhar Suman, SRK boosted his morale and confidence overtime.

Kudos to Sudesh Lehri who not only made his city proud of him but also, he has made a place in the hearts of every family across the globe through his comedy flair.
