When I met 'the-Besharam' singers: Shree Ishq

IshQ Bector and Shree D
The duo needs no introduction. They have made Bollywood and music industry proud of them. Already made a mark in the industry, Ishq Bector and Shree D didn’t leave any stone unturned in making Pollywood, a fan of them as well. When I interacted with them, during their visit to Jalandhar, I actually came to know about their work profile more intensely.

IshQ Bector and Shree D, the names which are synonymous to music industry have contributed a lot in Hindi Cinema so far. Their latest number in kitty is the title track of movie ‘Besharam’ starring Ranbir Kapoor. The duo has made an entry into Pollywood with their flick titled ‘Love Yoou Soniye’. They interacted with me amidst their short promotional visit in city.

Ask them about the decision behind making a debut in Punjabi films both says, “Well, the leads of movie Karanvir Bohra and Teejay Sidhu are my good buddies. They approached us for the one song only but then we ended up with four songs. The songs in the movie are Labh Da Fire, Oh motti, Love Karle and ReliefNi.”

IshQ Bector who is born and brought up in Canada is an urban music producer and rapper whereas Shree D is an Indian classically trained singer and composer who hails from city of lights ‘Banaras’. The duo never experienced Punjabi language and thus it was little dicey task for them to sing a Punjabi song for the first time ever. Telling about the hurdles that came amidst, IshQ tells, “It was tough for me to deal with Punjabi language initially. Above all, it was little hard-hitting to understand the psychology of Punjabi’s and their language, their needs. But then, it went easy for us as the movie didn’t require ‘thet’ Punjabi songs. So, we gave a mixture of Hindi as well as Punjabi music in the movie which audience may like.”

IshQ made his mark with the song ‘Aye Hip Hopper’ that became wild among masses and Shree D made his debut with ‘Always Kabhie Kabhie’. And the duo made their first music direction with the song ‘Besharam’. Sharing the experience of the same both tells, “Shree D and I composed then played a scratch track to buddy Himanshu Mehra (producer). The three of us jammed further and Himanshu penned down the lyrics. We played the track for Abhinav Kashyap and Ranbir Kapoor. Everyone agreed that the song was great. And with Lalitji's blessing the track got into the film and the experience has been wonderful.”

Ask them about their take on vulgarity included in the songs now-a-days they conclude, “It is the need of hour. The audience especially the youth loves such stuff. Tell me who is willing to listen to the tunes of old traditional songs? When the youth who is the future of tomorrow admires such stuff then there shall be no restriction by filing the cases against singers etc but yes, such words shall be naturally included instead of forcefully which surely makes it absurd.”
